On Saturday, Oct. 13, more than 65 community members laced up their sneakers to participate in Dow Realty Group’s fun and unique fundraising event – a 1K Endurance Challenge benefiting CASA of NH. The walk took participants .62 miles from Prescott Park in downtown Meredith to the finish line – conveniently located between Hermit Woods Winery and Frog Rock Tavern – where guests were treated to a complementary wine tasting and beer to celebrate their efforts.
Through the generous support of Dow Realty Group, participants and sponsors, the walk raised $12,000 to support CASA of New Hampshire – an effort that was spearheaded by two amazing, long-time CASA volunteers: Pam Clark and Frieda Yueh. Pam and Frieda work out of the new Laconia office and were quick to jump in to help with the 1K event to bring more awareness about the need for more CASAs in the Lakes Region.
“When we were asked to help with the 1K event we reached out to the other advocates in the area to participate in the walk, donate items for the raffle baskets or become sponsors. Everyone pitched in where they could to make the event a success,” says Pam, a CASA volunteer advocate and Peer Coordinator who lives in Gilford.
“Knowing how many new cases come out of the Laconia Family Court each year, and the need for more CASAs to represent them, we were happy to help bring awareness about CASA to the community,” says Frieda, a CASA volunteer advocate from Laconia. “When we got to Frog Rock Tavern we were given high-fives from the patrons who were already there for our 1K efforts,” says Pam jokingly. “And they asked us what CASA does. We got to spread our message in ways we didn’t anticipate, but were happy about reaching a larger audience than just the walkers.”
Plymouth State University students were on hand to scoop ice cream flavors they created as part of an annual apprentice ice cream challenge hosted by the Common Man.
“At the end of the day the students approached me about CASA becoming their charity to receive a $1,000 donation if they win they contest,” says Joy Nolan, CASA of New Hampshire’s Director of Operations. “The 1K event hosted by Dow Realty to benefit CASA has not only helped us to create more awareness in an area of the state that is desperate need of more volunteers, but has connected us with more community partners.”
“The whole thing was a success as we surpassed our goal of $10,000 and had over 50 walkers show up,” says Morgan Coleman of Dow Realty Group. “Any first-time event has its challenges, but in the end all the hard work was worth it because we brought people together to raise awareness and money for a deserving cause.”
CASA of New Hampshire sincerely thanks Morgan Coleman at Dow Realty Group, Pam Clark and Frieda Yueh, all of the 1K Endurance Challenge participants and donors, and the generous sponsors who made this event possible.
