We asked friends, families, and supporters of CASA to generously submit any original artwork they thought would make a great greeting card. We were graciously overwhelmed by the amount of support we received from everyone: 70 artists submitted over 100 pieces to the fundraiser. Meet David Mackenzie: one of the 19 artists whose piece was chosen to help benefit victimized children in New Hampshire.
David Mackenzie of Bedford, New Hampshire is a long time photographer whose pieces were well received by our employees. From street photography to the fashion industry, his vast amount of experience in the realm has helped him travel and photograph all over the world. To learn about his passions, we asked David a few questions:
CASA: Tell us about yourself! What is your background? Do you primarily create art or do you have other hobbies/careers?
DAVID: In the early 1970’s, I was fortunate to spend 9 months as an assistant to one of the top fashion photographers in New York City. Unfortunately, while this fashion period focused me technically, it did little to stoke my early creative urges. As a result, I put down my cameras and entered a working life totally unrelated to photography. For the next 40 years I only occasionally picked up a camera, mostly to document family events. During my working life I was lucky to have a job which involved a great deal of international travel, exposing me to the vast variety of peoples and landscapes around the world. These travel experiences reignited my interest in photography and drove my intentions to resume photography in retirement. Now retired from my working life, I’m refocusing on photography. I’m currently emphasizing travel and landscape photography, with an eye to color and texture in the landscape, and sharing my experiences through my images.
CASA: How long have you been creating art? How were you introduced to this craft?
DAVID: I’ve been photographing since I got my first camera in 1964, fairly seriously from 1969 to 1973, with a long break as described in statement. Now pretty much devoted since 2015.
CASA: Do you have a process you typically use to generate new ideas?
DAVID: Just observing as I travel and wander.
CASA: What are three words you would use to describe your artistic style?
DAVID: Colorful, Representational, Aware
CASA: Do you have a website or a business that you would like to share with the readers?
DAVID: My portfolio, www.davidmackenzie.myportfolio.com
Thank you to David and every other artist who submitted to the CASA Cards for a Cause Fundraiser. This fundraiser is yet another way ordinary people can make extraordinary efforts in combating child abuse and neglect in New Hampshire. There are so many way to help, so thank all of you who have done so.
