Meet Woolsey Conover: CASA Cards for a Cause Artist
We asked friends, families, and supporters of CASA to generously submit any original artwork they thought would make a great greeting card. We were graciously overwhelmed by the amount of support we received from everyone: 70 artists submitted over 100 pieces to the fundraiser. Meet Woolsey Conover: one of the 19 artists whose piece was chosen to help benefit victimized children in New Hampshire.
Woolsey Conover has submitted over one dozen pieces to our fundraiser over the last several years, eight of which have been chosen as cards. This year, his piece “Arrangement in Green” was a huge hit. His love and 25-year devotion to art helped him name the piece: “The title is a parody on James M. Whistle’s painting of his Mother, “Arrangement in Grey and Black, No. 1,” he explains. To get to know this Cards for a Cause veteran, we asked Woolsey a few questions:
CASA: Tell us about yourself! How long have you been creating art? How were you introduced to this craft?
WOOLSEY: I have, for the past 25 years, studied, drawn, and painted for the creative pleasure it gives m.e At this stage of my artistic development, and life, I am thankfully able to spend more time and bring more intensity to my work. My friend and artistic mentor, David Ratner once told me, somewhat whimsically, “One good thing about being an artist is that you don’t hurt anyone, and once in a while you’ll do something that will give someone a little pleasure. How can life be better than 
that?” …words with which I completely agree.
CASA: Do you have any influencers in the art industry that you particularly enjoy?
WOOLSEY: My artistic heritage includes 20th Century painters Edward Hopper and Fairfield Porter, two well known and highly respected artists who were diligent in their efforts to create evocative, satisfying and, at the same time, understandable works of art. And of course, David Ratner, former professor of art at Boston University.
CASA: Do you have a website or a business that you would like to share with the readers?

CASA: What is your affiliation with CASA?
WOOLSEY: My wife Bea and I have supported CASA’s work for almost ten years now.
