Chief Paul J. Smith
Chief Paul J. Smith has proudly served the Littleton Police Department since 1992 and has been Chief of Police since 2007. A lifelong resident of Littleton and a U.S. Army veteran, Chief Smith’s professional career has been rooted in public service, leadership, and a deep commitment to the well-being of his community.
Beyond his law enforcement duties, Chief Smith is actively engaged in a wide range of community service and volunteer efforts throughout Grafton County and the North Country region. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for Littleton Regional Healthcare and Northern Human Services, two critical institutions addressing health care and mental health needs in the region. He previously served on the Board of Directors for Advocates for Grafton County Mental Health Courts.
Chief Smith plays an ongoing role on both the Grafton County Superior Court Drug Treatment Court Team and the NH 2nd Circuit Court Littleton Division Mental Health Court Team, advocating for alternatives to incarceration through treatment and restorative support. He also serves as Director of the Grafton County Chiefs of Police Association, where he helps guide interagency collaboration and best practices in public safety.
A strong believer in youth and family engagement, Chief Smith actively participates in the Safe Routes to School “Walking Wednesday” program at Lakeway Elementary School and coordinates bicycle safety programs and bike rodeos for local children. He is also a passionate supporter and fundraiser for Special Olympics New Hampshire and has regularly participated in events such as the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the annual Winne Dip.
In addition to his extensive public service record, Chief Smith stepped in as Interim Town Manager for the Town of Littleton in 2024. In recognition of his long-standing contributions to the community, he was honored as the 2024 Littleton Area Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year. He is the recipient of the Congressional Law Enforcement Award – United States House of Representatives.
Chief Smith is the proud father of two children and enjoys spending time with his family and beloved dog, Abby. He brings to every endeavor a steadfast belief in community-centered leadership, collaborative problem-solving, and the importance of giving every child a voice—values that align strongly with the mission of CASA of New Hampshire.
